At E3 2017, several games were revealed to be cross-play compatible. Mainly Minecraft and Rocket League, both of which are on, or will be on, Nintendo Switch, and thus players can play with others on that console too. However, Sony declined to take part in this Cross-Play opportunity, citing that they wanted to keep their players safe from others who may be on other servers on those consoles and handhelds.
Well, that didn’t sit well with Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, who is the head of Xbox, who notes to Giant Bomb that saying that players wouldn’t be safe because of Cross-Play is wrong:
“The fact that somebody would make an assertion that somehow we’re not keeping Minecraft players safe, I found, not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective…. I don’t know why that has to become the dialogue. We would never put Minecraft in a place where we felt like we weren’t keeping our players safe,”
It seems shots are being fired, but to what end will this lead? Guess we’ll have to wait and find out.
