Düngeonmeister: The Expanded Edition Coming In October

Jef Aldrich and Jon Taylor are two men from San Diego who run the System Mastery podcast, where they review and chat about classic RPGs they find interesting or just plain weird. They have since found further success with their Dungeonmeister series of books, each written to enhance the TTRPG experience in some way.

The list includes the original Düngeonmeister (a cocktail recipe book), The Düngeonmeister Goblin Quest Coloring Book, The Düngeonmeister Cookbook, Düngeonmeister: The Deck of Many Drinks, and Düngeonmeister: The Random Monster Generator. Now they’re bringing us an enhanced version of their cocktail collection in Düngeonmeister: A Drink Master’s Guide: The Expanded Edition.

The Expanded Edition will contain all the game night drink recipes that were in the original bestselling RPG-themed cocktail book, plus additonal chapters containing never-before-seen drinks to brew up. For people who don’t drink, there is a new section full of alcohol-themed recipes and mocktails, so no one in the party has to be left dry.

“Uncover brand-new recipes and fan-favorite classics, all inspired by the creativity and excitement of tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons,” says the press release for Düngeonmeister. “Featuring RPG-inspired drink names, playful nods to tabletop game tropes, and step-by-step drink instructions, this book makes crafting cocktails as thrilling as a critical hit. Whether you’re a seasoned Dungeons & Dragons player, a mixology fan, or a lover of fantasy worlds, this RPG-themed cocktail book is a must-have guide for your next game night or party. Cheers to rolling dice and raising glasses!”

Düngeonmeister: A Drink Master’s Guide: The Expanded Edition will be released to retail October 28 for a price of $19.

I actually bought the original Düngeonmeister book when it came out. My friends and I used it during our Dungeons & Dragons sessions, and it brought many laughs. Some recipes were simple, others required more effort, but it was always fun. What I am curious about now is how many new drinks they added in this edition. If it is just a handful, I might wait. But if the new content is big enough, I am willing to upgrade.

From a cooking perspective, I think this edition is interesting. Many cocktail books exist already, but few give mocktail alternatives with the same attention. It means this book can work even for someone who does not know role-playing games but just wants fun recipes with unique names. It can serve two audiences at once. That is smart design.

It sounds like a fun concept. For people who enjoy both TTRPGs and mixing drinks, it's a perfect combination. The press release makes it sound very accessible, promising step-by-step drink instructions that make crafting cocktails easy, which is important. Not everyone is an expert mixologist. The creators have correctly identified that their audience wants something playful and easy to use. The expansion adding more recipes makes sense, as people quickly go through the content of a themed book like this. I can see this being a popular gift item for the upcoming holidays.

I collect tabletop-related books, even ones I do not use much. For me, Düngeonmeister editions are part of that hobby. They are not just guides, they are part of the history of how gaming culture expanded into lifestyle products. This is why I will buy the expanded edition, to keep my set complete.
