Discord Now Supports Roll20 Virtual Tabletop

In one of the smarter cross-business decisions we’ve seen, the virtual tabletop company Roll20 has announced a partnership with Discord to get Roll20’s software working directly within Discord servers. It’s much easier to get people to join a game if it’s on a platform they’re already familiar with.

Here’s how it works: you access Discord on a desktop website browser, then create a Voice Channel (creating channels is currently not possible on mobile). Alternately, if someone else has already created a voice channel, you simply join that existing one. Next, click the Rocket Ship button, then select Roll20. If this is the first time you’ve launched the software, you may have to get past a log in or sign up window before doing anything, but after that, you’re good to go, and you can invite as many friends to the channel / activity as you want.

“We provide the flexibility and options you need to continue an existing Roll20 campaign or start fresh with a blank game without ever leaving Discord,” says Roll20 senior marketing manager Jayme Boucher. “With support for nine popular systems at launch, there’s something for everyone, even first-time players. Several free starter adventures are also available, offering an easy and cost-free way to explore new games.”

Roll20 supports virtual versions of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Cyberpunk RED, Call of Cthulhu, Alien, Marvel Multiverse RPG, and Dune, among others. Discord’s Roll20 features are live now and can be accessed starting today.

This is perfect! I love hanging out with my friends on Discord, so being able to play games together without leaving the app is amazing. I can see us spending hours on this. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people.

This could be a game-changer for family game nights. I've been trying to get my kids into role-playing games, but it's been tough to coordinate everyone's schedules. If we can do it on Discord, it'll be much easier to get everyone together. I’m interested to see how it works for a family setting.

This is awesome news! I've always wanted to try tabletop RPGs but never got around to it. This makes it so much easier to jump in. I hope there are plenty of games to choose from. I'm excited to explore this new hobby!
