the next chapter is a crossover with Five Nights at Freddy’s! The iconic animatronics are officially coming to the Fog, fulfilling a long-standing wish of the community. For years, fans have been clamoring for a Dead by Daylight and Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover. Despite naysayers claiming it wouldn’t happen due to differing target audiences, FNAF being PG horror and DBD being R-18, the collaboration is finally becoming a reality. This announcement has silenced those who argued that a Fortnite crossover was more likely, especially given the younger demographic of FNAF fans. It’s worth noting that many of the original FNAF players are now adults, given the game’s longevity. Additionally, Dead by Daylight has successfully incorporated characters from various genres, including non-horror franchises like Tomb Raider, Dungeons & Dragons, and Castlevania. DBD’s horror is more violent while Five Nights at Freddy’s is more on jump scares. Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s, previously expressed hesitation about a crossover, fearing disrespect for his creation. However, it seems he has changed his mind, and the timing couldn’t be better with the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s anniversary.
Who is the Killer and Survivor?
The identity of the killer is a hotly debated topic among fans. Freddy Fazbear, as the face of the franchise, seems the most obvious choice. However, the terrifying Springtrap also makes a strong case as the game’s potential antagonist. It’s possible we could see other iconic animatronics as legendary skins, similar to how Tiffany became a skin for Chucky.
As for survivors, there are a few possibilities. Michael Afton is a popular choice due to his prominence in the franchise, especially after the film adaptation gave him a face. While it would be exciting to see Josh Hutcherson‘s likeness, it’s more likely that DBD will create their own original model.
Another strong contender is Vanessa. Her playable status in a previous game and the underage nature of other potential characters make her a viable option. Both Afton and Vanessa are morally complex characters, a refreshing change from the typically heroic survivors. While characters like Yu-Jin Lee, Ada Wong, and Jill Valentine have shown questionable morals, the majority of survivors in Dead by Daylight tend to be more straightforwardly heroic.
Interestingly, there’s a precedent for chapters with only one side. The Tomb Raider chapter featured a killer only, while the Texas Chainsaw Massacre chapter had no survivors. It’s therefore possible that this chapter could follow suit, offering only a killer-only experience.
