Cobra Kai is renewed for 5th Season
Cobra Kai just surpassed the number of canonical Karate Kid movies. There are four canonical The Karate Kid movies, not counting the Jaden Smith one. William Zabka, the actor who played Johnny Lawrence just confirmed a 5th season.

Cobra Kai was originally a Youtube Red show that is a continuation of the original Karate Kid franchise. The only Karate Kid films that are part of the Kobra Kai canon are the original trilogy and “The Next Karate Kid. You can watch the first season for free on Youtube while the rest of the seasons continued on Netflix. I was nervous when the show transferred to Netflix due to its tendency to cancel shows but Netflix had been great to Cobra Kai. Now a fifth season is coming because of its ratings success.
I will not reveal the plot points of the series but it is a must-watch for every single Karate kid fan. Even if you never watch The Karate kid, Cobra Kai is also watchable as a standalone. It supplements new audiences with flashbacks. I still highly recommend watching the first four The Karate kid films before binging this show.
Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) among other Karate kid characters returned to the show. The Nostalgia factor of the classic characters entices to you watch but the new generation of characters will make your stay. Every Season an actor from the original films gets to reprise their roles. Seeing them grow up gives the audience a sense of sentimentality. There is one actor from the franchise the fans wanted to see on the show. Hilary Swank, who played Julie Pierce in The Next Karate kid. She was Miyagi’s(Pat Morita) final onscreen student. She never met Daniel and Johnny. This was before she became a big star.
