The Captain America films are a very curious set in regards to the other Marvel films. The first one set the stage for Captain America, and featured his battles in WWII. Whereas the Winter Soldier delved into what Captain America is, and can be, in the modern world. All the while, shaking up the entire MCU. Now, with Civil War, the stage is set for another massive shaekup, as heroes are about to go to war with each other. But as the Russo brothers note to the D23 Magazine (as noted by Yahoo), though Civil War will have twists, they will be focused on the characters, rather than the plot itself:
“The turns in the movie are character-based,” said Russo (via Yahoo!). “The twists are character-based. Winter Soldier was based more on the twisting plot. This one twists on character.”
“Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle,” Evans told the magazine. “It’s exciting to see a guy who’s as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness.”
This goes very much hand in hand with what happened in the Civil War comic, but it will remain to be seen just how much of it will be like the directors say. Captain America: Civil War arrives May 6th.
