Cinema Audio Society Awards 2026 Winners

People often overlook the quality of cinematic sound when discussing their favorite movies. However, sound mixing plays an important part in how those stories hit us emotionally. Luckily, we have the 2026 Cinema Audio Society Awards winners to celebrate those achievements.

Below, we’ll break down the winners to learn why their sound work stood out.

Celebrate Sound with The 2026 Cinema Audio Society Awards Winners

When people talk about their favorite movies, they usually focus on the actors, visuals, big story moments, or the music. While important in their own right, such discussions rarely mention sound design. However, the sound mixing can make or break a film.

Sound mixing is the blending of dialogue, music, sound effects, and Foley into a seamless experience. As such, it affects how we enjoy everything from film soundtracks to ambient background sounds to the way we hear actors deliver their dialogue.

Because of this, the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) was formed in 1964 to celebrate the art form and to give sound mixers the recognition they deserved. Since then, they have worked to educate the industry and the general public on the merits of high-quality sound in movies and television.

What are the CAS Awards

At the heart of their efforts is the annual Cinema Audio Society Awards.

The CAS Awards celebrate the best sound mixing from the previous year’s films, television, documentaries, and music. It’s also one of Hollywood’s most respected honors, as it often predicts Oscar winners, especially in Best Sound and other technical categories.

This year, they awarded trophies in seven categories and three achievements at their event held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on March 7, 2026. These 2026 Cinema Audio Society Awards winners showed that great sound doesn’t just support a story, it shapes it.

2026 Live-Action Film CAS Awards Winner: F1: The Movie

Racing films live and die by their sound. So, it’s no surprise that F1: The Movie grabbed the 2026 CAS Award for Outstanding Live Action Feature Sound Mixing.

From the thunder of engines to the subtle sounds inside cockpits, F1 placed you right inside the driver’s seat. It felt powerful and immersive without overwhelming you in dialogue or emotional moments. Things only got loud when necessary and remained quiet when it mattered.

The nominees were:

  • 🏆 Winner – F1: The Movie
  • Frankenstein
  • Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
  • One Battle After Another
  • Sinners

2026 Animation CAS Awards Winner: KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters continued its awards season dominance with its Best Animated Sound Mixing CAS win. It makes sense, too.

Demon Hunters straddles the line between music and superhero films. It’s also animated, completely reliant on sound to create its world.

So, it had to blend pop music, action, comedy, and supernatural chaos into a high‑energy, high-impact soundscape. As a result, the result feels polished and controlled, yet uniquely personal. Every song, punch, and punchline landed exactly where they should have, proving that animation is as creative as live action, if not more so.

The nominees were:

  • Elio
  • 🏆 Winner – KPop Demon Hunters
  • The Bad Guys 2
  • The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants
  • Zootopia 2

Documentary CAS Awards Winner: Becoming Led Zeppelin

The Best Sounding Documentary category went to Becoming Led Zeppelin.

It’s a music documentary. So, it demanded exceptional sound as well.

Luckily, the film nailed it enough to impress the CAS judges. They marveled at how well it blended the various interviews, restored archival recordings, and live performances without losing clarity or authenticity.

The nominees were:

  • 🏆 Winner – Becoming Led Zeppelin
  • I Was Born This Way
  • It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley
  • Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery
  • Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror

Best Sound Mixing in One-Hour TV: The Pitt

On the television side, the 2026 CAS Awards named The Pit as having the Best Sound Mixing for a One-Hour Series.

Best Sound Mixing in Half-hour TV Comedy: The Studio

Good comedy sound mixing is all about using timing, tone, and atmosphere to enhance character moments without overshadowing them. Some shows get it right. Most don’t.

KPop Demon Hunters getting Best Animated Sound Mixing makes so much sense. The music and action were always perfectly timed, and the voices were clear even with all the chaos. I like animation, but sometimes the sound is just okay. This one felt different because every punch, song, and funny moment had the right impact. I didn’t realize how much work goes into blending music and sound effects until I watched behind-the-scenes clips. It’s impressive. I hope they continue making sound a big part of animation, especially when music is a central part of the story. Some of the nominees like Zootopia 2 looked good, but I feel like Demon Hunters really mastered the mix.

Becoming Led Zeppelin winning for Best Documentary sound makes total sense to me. Music documentaries are tricky because you have to mix interviews, live music, and old recordings all together. This one did it perfectly. I could hear the instruments clearly, and the vocals sounded natural. It didn’t feel like anything was overpowering anything else, which is rare. I feel like the sound mixing helped me feel the energy of the performances while still connecting with the stories behind the band. Some documentaries just sound flat, but this one made me want to keep watching just to hear the music. It’s a good reminder that good sound can make a big difference in non-fiction films too.

Adolescence winning for limited series sound was interesting because it’s all about restraint. The quiet moments were so tense and emotional, and the sounds they did include were very intentional. I think it shows that sound isn’t just for big moments or action. Sometimes silence is just as powerful, if not more. I like seeing this kind of approach recognized because it’s different from the usual loud, flashy sound design. It makes me pay more attention to how sound affects storytelling.

This made me smile. Two more classic episodes back from the dead. The Daleks' Master Plan is such a legendary lost story and getting any parts of it feels like a miracle. It was considered too violent for foreign markets back in the day which says a lot about how different TV rules were. Nice to know the three surviving ones will have company on iPlayer soon. Classic Who keeps giving.
