Capcom Introduces Shinsekai: Into the Depths
Capcom wound up introducing a brand new game at the Apple Arcade launch: a sidescrolling deep-sea exploration title with the mouthful name of Shinsekai: Into the Depths. You’re a diver plunging into the depths of the ocean, scavenging for supplies and resources. Capcom suggests the reason you’re doing this is because you’re the last human alive after another Ice Age hits, but….yikes, we hope it’s not THAT dire.
Half survival game, half Metroidvania, you’ll be floating around beautifully rendered oceanography while keeping watch on your dwindling oxygen supply and keeping the other eye out for enemies. As you gather resources, you’ll be able to upgrade your gear and create new items out of what you find.
Capcom says even though this game is starting out mainly on mobile devices, they ” took a console-quality approach to the project in order to provide players with an original and immersive new gaming experience.” They took this to the extent of recording the music and sound effects, playing them on speakers submerged underwater, and then recording them again. Nothing but authenticity for YOUR ears!
Shinsekai: Into the Depths appeared as part of Apple Arcade’s launch lineup and it is a finished product with no DLC or extra content to buy. Currently the only way to play it is on an Apple device for $4.99 a month, but hopefully Capcom will consider publishing it on other machines.
