Black Panther Doesn’t See Himself As A Superhero
Black Panther is one of the most unique superheroes in the Marvel universe. Not because of his powers, or his suit, but because of his role in his country. For he is not just a hero, but a king, and the inheritor of a legacy spanning many generations. It is this that drives him to be the best he can be, for it’s not just himself he’s fighting for, but also his country and people.
The Black Panther will definitely be featuring this side of the hero, for director Ryan Coogler has stated that the current Black Panther comics have inspired his take on the character.
“What [Coates] is doing with Panther is just incredible,” Coogler told Vulture. “You can really see his background as a poet in some of the dialogue. And what Brian Stelfreeze is doing with the visuals in that book.” It’s an absolute inspiration for Coogler and co-screenwriter Joe Robert Cole, the director added.
He enforced that to him, Black Panther isn’t just a hero, he’s multi-layered:
“He sees himself as a politician, as a leader in his country,” Coogler said. “It just so happens that the country is a warrior-based nation where the leaders have to be warriors, as well, so sometimes he has to go fight.”
Black Panther is set for debut on February 16, 2018.
