This week marks the midseason finales for all the CW/DC Comics shows, with Arrow ending them tomorrow night. But, with the ending, teases a new beginning in the form of Black Lightning. Since “Crisis On Earth-X”, we’ve been seeing more and more about the newest hero in the CWverse, and now, we’ve gotten a brand new trailer to herald his arrival.
In this trailer, we hear from an unknown character who is talking to Black Lightning about him coming back. What’s important in this dialogue is that he says “we knew this day would come”, then, recites why Jefferson Pierce became the hero in the first place. The trailer shows not only Black Lightning in action, but also teases the villains he will face, including Tobias Whale.
What makes this character different from Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and the Legends of Tomorrow is that Pierce was a hero before, but after trying to make a difference in his home of Atlanta, he gave up the life to try and live a better one with his wife and soon-to-be children. Yet, when dangers like Tobias Whale and the 100 threaten the peace, he has to suit up once again.
Black Lightning will follow The Flash on Tuesdays when it debuts on January 16th.
