Adult Swim’s Primal Renewed For Third Season

The entertainment industry isn’t in great shape these days, but as long as we keep giving Genndy Tartakovsky whatever he wants, there will always be a bright spot. He and Adult Swim have been great partners of late, producing top-quality content like Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, the final season of Samurai Jack and the two existing seasons of Primal.

And the hits will keep on coming: Adult Swim announced today a third season of Primal is now in production. “It’s happening! Primal has become a contagious disease that I don’t ever want to cure,” said Tartakovsky. “Every episode flows out like an unstoppable force beyond my control. Prepare yourselves Primal fans for Season 3 is coming!”

Primal is about a caveman (Spear) and a dinosaur (Fang) who partner up and explore a world that seems to be a mixture of ancient timelines. If you’ve seen every episode including the finale, then you might be wondering how a Season 3 is even possible. Spoilers follow.

Season 2 appeared to be the end of the story; it wrapped up with the death of Spear and an epilogue scene where his kid and Fang’s kid ride up and explore the world once more. Is that what we’re getting, or something else? There’s already an answer if you look: Genndy was interviewed by EW.com last fall after the airing of the finale, where he revealed what he’d do with a Season 3.

“I want it to almost become an anthology show, where season 3 would still be called Primal, but with a different subheading. Low-dialogue, high-emotion, survival, rawness, visual storytelling: All that stuff, but with different characters. There’s more things I want to do with Primal, not necessarily Spear and Fang,” he said.

Don’t expect any new info about Season 2’s living characters either…unless you really want it. “Maybe if there’s a giant outcry, we’ll continue the story with his daughter and Mira and the dinosaurs. I’d have to really think about it.” Primal Season 3 has no release date; Unicorn: Warriors Eternal continues to air weekly on Adult Swim.

It's definitely encouraging to hear about Primal's renewal for a third season! In an industry where numerous animated shows have unfortunately faced unexpected cancellations, it's truly inspiring to see Primal continue its journey. While it's disappointing to witness the fate of other beloved animated series, let's celebrate Primal's resilience and its ability to maintain its presence in the ever-changing landscape of animated entertainment. Here's to hoping for more seasons.

Warner Discover and Adult Swim seriously know how to crush our TV-loving souls, don't they? I'm still reeling from the gut-punch of Westworld, Raised by Wolves, and Venture Bros. getting axed. Those shows were next-level amazing and had us hooked, man. The pain is real! But, hey, let's give credit where it's due. Thank the TV gods that Primal made the cut! Adult Swim actually got something right and spared us from losing one of the coolest series out there. I mean, have you seen it? It's like an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride through prehistoric madness!

The news that Primal has been renewed for a third season makes me incredibly happy! I'm excited to see what new stories and characters Genndy Tartakovsky develops for this masterpiece of a program.

Primal's first two seasons were enjoyable, but I'm not sure whether I'll keep watching without Spear and Fang. The show was absolutely amazing because of their relationship and the way their narrative was presented. Changing the focus to other people worries me because it would weaken the core of what made Primal so compelling.

I totally agree with you! Spear and Fang were the heart and soul of Primal. Their bond and the way they communicated without words were truly special. It's hard to imagine the show without them. I hope the creators find a way to maintain that magic even if the focus shifts to other character

Primal returning for Season 3! What fantastic news! Since the beginning, I've been a fan, and I adore the way the show balances real feelings with survival instincts. It's a distinct approach to storytelling. To see how Genndy Tartakovsky would approach the new season with various characters, intrigues me. I hope he keeps delivering the gripping images and violent scenes that make Primal so exceptional. eager to set out on another adventure.

Eww, this violent and visually ugly show got renewed! People have no taste! Riverdale is the show people should be watching.

Whoa, hold up! Primal is getting a Season 3? I'm blown away. I mean, the finale of Season 2 seemed like the end of the road for Spear and Fang, but I guess Genndy Tartakovsky has some surprises up his sleeve. Making Season 3 an anthology with a different focus sounds intriguing. I'm excited to see what kind of stories he'll explore without necessarily following the original characters
