Would You Marry Me? ~ You Have The Same Name as My Ex

“Would You Marry Me?” is a 2025 Korean drama, 12 episodes, categorized as Romance and Comedy (Rom-Com), and it’s streaming on Disney+/Hulu.

  • Memorable Quote: “Will you be my husband?”

SUMMARY: Her fiancé was unfaithful so they broke up. Her marriage was already registered so she asked for a divorce. But then she won an apartment. The only problem was she needed a husband in order to accept the prize.

♦ That Kim Woo-joo Cheats!

In “Would You Marry Me?”, two different people are drawn together by chance and necessity. Yoo Me-ri is a talented yet struggling designer whose life crumbles after she discovers her fiancé’s infidelity. To compound her disappointment, she learned that she was the victim of financial fraud, a devastating housing scam. Kim Woo-joo, in contrast, is a composed marketing executive and heir to a long-established bakery empire. They met because she got drunk after breaking up with her fiancé and bumped into his car. Guess what? His name is Kim Woo-joo, the same name as her fiancé. The accident was handled, and they parted ways and no doubt believed they’d never see each other again.

Yoo Me-ri unexpectedly wins a luxury townhouse in a “newlywed prize” contest. She entered the contest when she thought she and Kim Woo-joo … the other Kim Woo-joo … were going to get married. Their marriage was already registered. That meant she needed to get a divorce, even though she never walked down the aisle a a bride. They filled out the paperwork, only she didn’t go to family court to officially file the divorce documents. Technically, she’s a divorcee. On the other hand, technically, she’s married. Yoo Me-ri is ready to accept the prize, but there’s a catch. Only a legally married couple can claim it.

♦ Can This Kim Woo-joo Help Me Cheat?

With no options left, Yoo Me-ri hatches a desperate plan. She persuades Kim Woo-joo … the accidental Kim Woo-joo … to pose as her husband for ninety days so they can secure the house. He agrees. As the two pretend to be newlyweds, they must maintain a convincing façade for nosy neighbors, prize officials, and curious acquaintances. Their differences spark constant clashes. However, that’s not the only complication. There are several, such as Yoo Me-ri’s ex-fiancé reappears before the ninety-day deadline is up. But what begins as a calculated financial deal quickly turns into an unpredictable experiment in cohabitation and compatibility.

“Would You Marry Me?” uses a common K-drama rom-com trope, a fake marriage. You either like it or you don’t. I like it.

Rom-Com K-Dramas About Fake or Contract Marriages

  1. Business Proposal (2022) – A food researcher goes on a blind date pretending to be her friend, only to discover her date is her boss. Their fake dating deal soon becomes messy and romantic.
  2. Prime Minister and I (2013) – A prime minister enters a contract marriage with an ambitious reporter to improve his image, leading to unexpected warmth and family bonds.
  3. Love to Hate You (2023)
A feisty lawyer who despises men and a top actor who doesn’t trust women are forced into a contract relationship for PR reasons, sharp, modern, and funny.
  4. Love in Contract (2022)
A professional “fake wife” provides marriage partners for clients who need appearances of marriage, until she falls for one of them. A modern twist on the trope.

Wait, so you're telling me this is the new drama of the year? A fake marriage situation? Classic! But also, how many times can we roll with the "I need a husband for a prize" plot? 😂 Someone convince me this isn’t just another cookie-cutter rom-com before I waste 16 hours of my life! Also, are we really going to ignore the fact that her fiancé was unfaithful? Like, girl, RUN! But hey, I’m all for some cringe-worthy moments if it means I get to laugh and swoon at the same time. Anyone else hyped about this or just me?

I liked that the characters had realistic reactions to their unusual situation. The tension between past relationships and current obligations made the story engaging. The actors delivered convincing performances, especially Jung So-Min. Her expressions of frustration and hope made the character relatable. Choi Woo-Sik brought a calm presence that balanced the chaos Me-ri brought into their arrangement. Overall, the 90-day premise was interesting because it allowed both characters to grow individually while navigating forced intimacy. The drama managed to be lighthearted without ignoring the emotional challenges that come with betrayal and sudden life changes. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys romantic comedies with a mix of humor and character development. The supporting cast added depth without overshadowing the leads.

Each episode allowed Yoo Me-ri and Kim Woo-joo to understand each other gradually. The fake marriage concept could have been overdone, but the writers introduced small conflicts and humorous misunderstandings that kept it entertaining. The chemistry between the leads is important in any romantic comedy, and in this case, it worked very well. Seo Bum-June’s cameo added a bit of tension without making it overwhelming. The show has heart, humor, and just enough drama to keep me invested. It is a well-balanced story that I can see myself rewatching.
