William Hurt; Red Hulk - The Incredible Hulk

William Hurt Discusses Returning as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Civil War

There will be many characters depicted in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. However, one of the most intriguing is the return of “Thunderbolt” Thaddeus Ross. If you recall, Ross was last seen in The Incredible Hulk, all the way back at the beginning of Marvel’s Phase One in 2008. He hasn’t been seen in the films since. However, he will now make his return, once again played by William Hurt, in Civil War. Many are wondering what he’ll be like. Will he still be pursuing the Hulk? Will he now be an advocate against superheroes? No one really knows yet, but William Hurt did get to talk with IGN about it. He did share his thoughts on returning to the role.

Hurt stated: “I loved playing Ross the first time because I was able to try and create an ego as big as the monster he was chasing, and one that was as warped too. [Ross in Civil War] is different because it’s a different style. It’s a more modernized style. And what they’ve done is they’ve taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version. This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven’t had a lot of time to understand it, but I’m doing the best I can. And they haven’t fired me yet.”

Hurt returns as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
