Turok and Turok 2 Getting Digital Re-Release
Turok fans can rejoice. The original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil are coming back as remastered digital releases via Night Dive Studio. If you haven’t heard of Night Dive, they specialize in restoring old PC games with modern looks and releasing them. They’ve done it before with System Shock 2.
In a press release, CEO and founder of Night Dive Studios Stephen Kick said “when Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was first released it was nothing short of revolutionary. To that point, no game had ever offered the combination of graphics and an open world environment that Turok featured. We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring this great franchise back to life and to be able to share these great titles with today’s gaming audience.”
They’re right about that. When Turok arrived all the way back in 1997, things hadn’t grown to that size in video games. Remember, Super Mario 64 was revolutionary with it’s large enclosed environments. Then when Turok came out with essentially an open world, it was mind-blowing. It set the standard in many ways.
And though the series eventually died out, the originals live on fondly in fans’ hearts. We’ll let you know when they’re scheduled to come out.
