Topps Introduces Dune Collectible Card Set

Trading card company Topps has entered a deal with Fanatics Collectibles and Legendary Entertainment to produce a trading card set based on those two recent Dune movies released by WB. The set may be a bit late, but have no fear (because it’s the mind-killer)…it’s almost here.

They’re not changing the name…it’s still called 2024 Dune Chrome despite coming out in 2025. Topps says it’s “the first trading card collection from the eight-time Academy Award–winning Dune franchise. From Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment’s blockbuster films, this premium collection showcases iconic movie moments with Chrome technology, elite autograph signers, and chase-worthy inserts.” One of the more unusual things you can get are the SPICE cards, which contain actual spice used on the film sets.

The base set will be 90 cards, divided into 65 scenes from Dune: Part One and 35 character cards from Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two. But you can get additional cards featuring things like behind-the-scenes facts and autographs from the actors. Topps has confirmed the penmanship of Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin at least.

I am really excited about the Behind the Scenes insert. I study film production, and rarely do collectibles show what happens outside the camera. If the photos are truly never-before-seen, this could be a valuable resource even outside the collector’s market. It is like owning a visual record of how Villeneuve’s vision was realized. Sometimes, that is even more meaningful than a signed card, because it documents the process.

I see this as an investment opportunity. Topps Chrome sets often gain value if the property holds cultural importance. Since Dune is already compared to franchises like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, this could be the start of a new collectible line with longevity. The SPICE cards, in particular, are one-of-a-kind items that may never be repeated in future sets. If I can secure some early, I will definitely keep them sealed for years.

I am just glad Topps is experimenting beyond sports. I have no intention of reselling or chasing autographs, but I like having cards that represent stories I enjoy. For me, it is about collecting memories. When I look at a card, it reminds me of when I first saw that scene in the theater. It is like keeping a photo album, but officially licensed and with much better print quality.

As a longtime fan of the Dune films, I appreciate that Topps waited to get everything right instead of rushing the release. Including moments from both movies shows respect for the story and the fans. I am especially interested in the behind-the-scenes photos because they can give a different perspective on the filming process. Collecting autographs from actors like Josh Brolin is a nice bonus, and it makes me want to complete the set. I also like that the set is online-exclusive, which seems practical for people who cannot visit stores regularly.
