Thunderbolts, A first look

Thunderbolts is about to drop a bomb on the MCU, bringing together a crew of badass anti-heroes who are more like a dysfunctional family than a superhero team. Think of them as the MCU’s answer to the Suicide Squad, but without the whole “forced to do good” thing. Leading the charge is Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, the skilled assassin who was introduced in Black Widow as a co-protagonist alongside Natasha Romanoff. Pugh’s captivating performance and Yelena’s complex character arc have resonated with audiences, making her a natural choice for this pivotal role.Joining Yelena is Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds, also known as Sentry. Pullman, known for his roles in films like Bad Times at the El Royale and Top Gun: Maverick, will portray the powerful hero with a tragic backstory. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, the former Winter Soldier, whose redemption arc has been a highlight of the MCU. Stan’s portrayal of Bucky’s struggles and growth has earned him a dedicated fanbase.

Olga Kurylenko will reprise her role as Antonia Dreykov, also known as Taskmaster, the skilled assassin introduced in Black Widow. Kurylenko’s intense performance and Taskmaster’s formidable abilities make her a formidable antagonist. Hannah John-Kamen returns as Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, the villain from Ant-Man and the WaspDavid Harbour will reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, the father figure to both Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova. Harbour’s comedic and dramatic talents have made him a beloved character in the MCU. Julia Louis-Dreyfus will continue her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the mysterious figure who has been assembling a team of anti-heroes. Louis-Dreyfus’s intriguing and manipulative portrayal of Fontaine. Finally, Wyatt Russell will return as John Walker, also known as U.S. Agent, the former Captain America who has been grappling with his own dark impulses. Russell’s portrayal of Walker’s conflicted nature has made him a compelling character.

With such a talented cast, Thunderbolts is poised to deliver a thrilling and engaging story that explores the complexities of heroism and villainy. The film promises to be a must-watch for fans of the MCU and anyone who enjoys a good anti-hero tale.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* | Teaser Trailer

The trailer for Thunderbolts begins with Yelena Belova visiting her father, Red Guardian, after the events of the Hawkeye TV series. She talks about how all of them did bad things, expressing remorse for her crimes as a Black Widow.   In Wakanda Forever and Black Widow, we see the appearance of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a mysterious figure who is assembling a team of antagonists from various MCU movies. Think of her as the MCU’s version of a shady recruiter who’s got a plan. Winter Soldier is said to be a member of the team but from what we see in the trailer, he is trying to kill them first before the team got formed. Thunderbolts is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.

Whoa, Oni Press is coming in hot this May! "Toxic Summer" sounds like an absolute blast – mutant beach monsters and partying teenagers? Sign me up! I'm also excited for the next installments of "Night People" and "Rick and Morty: Kingdom Balls." And that "Rick and Morty" compendium is a must-have for any fan.

Interesting line-up, but I need to see more before diving in. "Toxic Summer" seems a bit too over-the-top for my taste. I'm curious about "Night People," the neo-noir vibes intrigue me. And while I enjoy "Rick and Morty," I might wait for reviews on the next volumes before committing.

Oni Press is definitely pushing the boundaries with these May releases. "Toxic Summer" has the potential for some wild social commentary, but I wonder how they'll handle the execution. The "RoboForce" continuation sounds promising, especially with the NacelleVerse coming into play. It'll be interesting to see how these different titles connect.

"The Tea Dragon Society" collection is a definite purchase for me. Those heartwarming stories always hit me right in the feels. And "Issunboshi" sounds like a fascinating reimagining of a classic folktale. I love how Oni Press champions these unique and diverse narratives.
