This Is The First Alien: Covenant Poster
We don’t know yet if Ridley Scott’s 2017 prequel Alien: Covenant will be any good. But at least the poster is.
I love it. Just the jaws and “RUN.” What more do you need?
Wish we were as confident about the movie itself. Scott produced Prometheus back in 2012, touted as the earliest Alien story in the timeline (he claimed it wasn’t directly related, but it very obviously was). It offered an explanation for what the Space Jockey was from the 1979 Alien….which I would prefer to pretend isn’t canon. Now Scott says he’s going to reveal who created the Xenomorphs and their purpose. Please don’t.
The Alien eggs and their deliverer were best left as mysteries. They raised the question of what else could be out there. The better direction would have been to expand on that and keep exploring, but no director including Scott has ever been interested. The real problem is the Alien franchise gets its feel from the sensation of how vast space is and how insignificant the people who explore it are. Prometheus not only ruined Space Jockeys but it took everything that had been built so far and made it ABOUT HUMANITY. Bad Ridley! Bad!
Alien: Covenant opens May 19, 2017. I suggest you watch some of the older films and savor the creepiness that comes from the mystery, before Scott reveals Xenos were created by Thomas Jefferson in 1794.
