Sony broadcasted a new State of Play yesterday. You never know what you’re going to get from these things, but fortunately the January 31 SoP was no dud. Here’s the best of what we saw in those forty minutes….
As one might expect, the trailer for Death Stranding 2 was both VERY long and VERY weird. There’s a bit of body horror at the beginning, so don’t eat a sandwich while watching (like I was). Why do the doctors have hand-shaped face masks that seem to move independently as extra limbs of their own? Heck, why is anything the way it is in Kojima’s wacky world? Maybe the answers will be in the game, and maybe not. You know how it is.
But it’s not the only thing Kojima is working on for Sony. He’s returning to the action espionage genre with PHYSINT, a game he promises will “blend” games and movies together. That’s all we know at this point.
The 20111 hit Sonic Generations is returning…but there’s one licorice-colored hedgehog who wasn’t there before. Now it’s SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS! It might be interesting to see a pot-bellied Shadow from a theoretical Genesis-era existence. Nothing indicates Sega will do that and Shadow might consider it undignified anyway.
The next Silent Hill game is coming….TODAY! And the price is…FREE! What’s happening? Konami hasn’t felt this generous since P.T. Uh-oh….better download it before they change their minds and delete it forever.
There were plenty of third-party titles shown off, but we’re most interested in JUDAS, Ken Levine’s first big game since his departure from the Bioshock studio. And the first impression of Judas is….it sure does look like Bioshock! Implanted powers that you shoot out with outstretched arms….colorful enemies…even vending machines; everything you missed is here.
Those who might’ve been momentarily disappointed with the lack of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth footage were placated by the State of Play’s final message, which stated there will be a second SoP one week from now devoted entirely to the game. Sounds good! We’re hoping for a demo release that day.
