The Flash Movie Will Have Him At Square One
The problem with superhero movies at times is that they often have to do an origin story with the characters to get the audience, both new and familiar, ready for what’s to come with both the main plot, as well as potential sequels. With The Flash, this may not be the case. As the CW TV show is watched by many, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to do an origin tale for the Flash movie that’ll happen via the DCEU.
In fact, Flash will truly debut in Justice League, where no doubt he’ll get some backstory and his origin of sorts. All that being said, that doesn’t mean we’ll see a “veteran” Flash in the film, as star Ezra Miller noted to IGN that though he’ll have grown via Justice League, he’s still a new kid on the block:
“I certainly think it will represent the next stage,” he explained. “What I find fascinating is that we’re still very much amateur-hour Speedster.” That’s a journey Miller’s clearly keen to continue in any potential future movies: “I’d love for the series to track an evolution of Barry Allen’s early times as The Flash.”
He went on to note how The Flash at full power is portrayed in certain comics, and reveals that’s note the best way to treat the character in the films:
“Like, I love this comic ‘Kingdom Come’ – unbelievable art – and in that The Flash is fully evolved, and you never even see him, right? It’s just like a red mist, and there’s no crime in [Keystone] City. He protects a whole chunk of the country.
So that wouldn’t make for the most interesting film – you know what I mean? What do we have to learn about that guy? That guy barely exists, right? He’s almost one with the Speed Force. So it’s interesting to go to the beginning.”
The Flash film is set to arrive in 2018.
