‘The Demon’ Joins DC’s Next Level Lineup

Recently DC announced a Jonah Hex book would be joining its Next Level line, which already includes titles like Batwoman, Lobo, Deathstroke: The Terminator, The Fury of Firestorm, Zatanna, Barbara Gordon: Breakout, and The Deadman, On the same day Hex’s new adventure rolls into town, Jason Blood and his literal inner demon will launch his own Next Level mini, simply called “The Demon.”

Jason is a demon hunter, a job that’s far less glamorous than recent Netflix movies would have you believe. He’s able to see the invisible underworld creatures lurking in our shadows because he shares his body with Etrigan, a powerful demon. Never mind how it happened, the point is that Etrigan bestows abilities that make demon hunting possible for Jason…if he can prevent Etrigan from taking over his body entirely.

The Demon is written and drawn by James Harren (Ultramega) with colors by Dave Stewart and lettering by Clayton Cowles. DC provided no quote from either person, but offered a few advance wordless pages from the book and stated “The Demon pushes the initiative into bold new territory with Harren’s mix of monsters, raw emotion, and sharp intensity. As DC All In enters its second act, new creator-driven titles highlight the ambition, range, and energy shaping DC’s 2026 publishing slate across both the main universe and the Absolute universe.”

DC also says this is far from the last Next Level title, and that future books are on the way in 2027 from talent like Skottie Young, Joshua Williamson, Amancay Nahuelpan, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Niko Henrichon, DaNi, Kyle Higgins, Jorge Corona, W. Maxwell Prince, Michael Walsh, Javier Rodríguez, Martín Morazzo, Darcy Van Poelgeest, James Harren, Fernando Blanco, Tony Fleecs, Greg Rucka, Rafael De Latorre, Mariko Tamaki, Hayden Sherman, Jamal Campbell, Gerry Duggan, and Jeff Lemire.

The main cover of The Demon #1 is by Harren, with variant covers by Daniel Warren Johnson, Michael Walsh, Hayden Sherman (Next Level), and John McCrea. The Demon #1 will retail for $3.99 US for the main cover, $4.99 US for card stock variants, and $6.99 US for the foil variant.
