Over the past year or two, DC Comics has been running a new brand of books called Next Level that tell self-contained stories focused on one character from their superhero lineup. So far we’ve had Batwoman, Lobo, Deathstroke: The Terminator, The Fury of Firestorm, Zatanna, Barbara Gordon: Breakout, and The Deadman, and soon a certain disfigured cowboy will be joining the ranks with Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death.
This six-issue tale brings the six-shooting hunter of supernatural horrors to a small town called Ashecott, where an unsees presence is lurking…something from another world that’s taking down victims one by one. Hex eventually figures out they seem to be here for one reason: a child with mysterious abilities. Hex’s mission now becomes to protect this kid and send the monsters back where they came from…he just has to find a way to pull that off.

Welcome to the end of the Wild West. Welcome to the quiet life of a broken-down bounty hunter whose own story, one of bloodshed, pain, and guilt, ended long ago—or so he thought.
In a small town called Ashecott, something evil has arrived. Something more dangerous than a gunslinger, more sinister than an outlaw, and older than the town it seeks to infect. Something from a world beyond the only one its victims have ever known. Something darker.
Unfortunately for that evil, Jonah Hex has taken notice. Not just of the otherworldly entities surrounding his home, or the child with mysterious abilities they seek to capture—but also of the chance to finally redeem himself.
Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death is written and drawn by horror comic veteran Michael Walsh (Exquisite Corpses). The main cover is also by Walsh, with variant covers by Brian Bolland, Julian Totino Tedesco, Javier Rodríguez (1:25), and Hayden Sherman (Next Level). The first issue will hit comic shops October 7, and will retail for $3.99 for the main cover, $4.99 for card stock variants, and $6.99 for the foil variant.
