The CW Just Cancelled Nothing….Again
Remember a year ago, when The CW reinforced their reputation as the kindest of all network overlords by renewing every single show in their lineup, no matter how low their ratings points were? It just happened again.
And this time, it happened even earlier than it did last time. Previously, CW waited until April to announce their renewals; this year, they didn’t even wait until our 2020 party hats were off. EVERYTHING is renewed; YOU get a renewal, and YOU get a renewal, and YOU get a renewal….
The full list of shows to receive pickups are The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman, Riverdale, Legacies, Dynasty, All American, Charmed, Roswell New Mexico, In the Dark, and Nancy Drew.
“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” states CW boss Mark Pedowitz. “We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman.”
The last series to be cancelled by The CW — as in cancelled, not a voluntary leave like this season’s Supernatural and The 100 — was Life Sentence two years ago. Ironically this was about a young woman who survives a terminal diagnosis only to be unsure what to do with her extended life.
