The Big Announcements From Nintendo’s August 2025 Indie World Video

We just got two Nintendo Directs within a short span of time: one for third parties, which ran last week, and one for indies, which ran early this morning. The one everybody’s been waiting for hasn’t really happened: details on what, exactly, Nintendo has specifically planned for 2025 beyond what’s been revealed. You won’t find those answers here, but the Indie World Showcase had a few surprises of its own.

The biggest was the sudden drop of UFO 50 on Switch, which Nintendo oddly glossed over, shoving it to part of a montage at the end of Indie World. It did get its own full trailer on Nintendo’s YouTube account though. If you don’t know about this, it’s hard to describe. It isn’t just one game, but as many as the title suggests and possibly more.

Yacht Club Games, the creators of Shovel Knight, are about to release their massively hyped follow-up, Mina the Hollower…which you can actually explore today! A demo was dropped shortly after the Indie World aired. There will be both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

Crypt Custodian developer Kyle Thompson presents his new metroidvania Well Dweller, targeted for sometime in 2026. This is the first anybody’s seen or heard of it.

Are those farming and lifestyle sims too CUDDLY for you? Then Neverway was made for you…Coldblood Inc. and Outersloth are working on the unnerving pixel-art life game, which arrives on Switch in 2026.

Is This Seat Taken has appeared on presentations before, but not to buy. As of the release of this trailer the game is OUT! It’s a cutesy puzzler where you have to fit every customer inside a large building depending on their demands.

Content Warning had a viral launch on PC, mainly because it was marked as free for the first 24 hours. It probably won’t launch free here (they have the recognition now, and the userbase they need for the co-op gameplay to work, so…what’s in it for them). It’ll come to Switch and Switch 2 sometime in 2026.

Another breezed-over game that got its own full trailer later was Undusted, a game about…dusting things. It’s from Toge Productions and 5minlab Corp. and should arrive this October.

I was honestly surprised that UFO 50 got pushed into a quick montage instead of a proper segment. I have been following that project for years, and it is much more ambitious than people realize. Fifty unique games in one package is not a small task, especially when each game has its own style and mechanics. I feel like Nintendo underestimated how many players would be interested in this. Maybe it is because the game has been on PC for a while and they think the Switch audience already knows about it. Either way, I am happy it is finally on Switch. This is the kind of project that fits portable play very well.

I tried the Mina the Hollower demo right after reading this and it really does feel like a blend of old Game Boy Color Zelda and Castlevania. The movement has a nice burrowing mechanic that makes exploration feel different. I think Yacht Club Games is in a unique position where people trust them after Shovel Knight, but they still have to prove this is not just a one-hit wonder studio. From the demo alone, I think they will succeed.

Well Dweller caught my attention. I like metroidvania games, and it feels like the indie scene is the only place where we get real creativity in that genre anymore. Big companies tend to play it safe, but small studios like Kyle Thompson’s can take risks with level design and atmosphere. I will wait for more footage before deciding, but so far it looks promising.

I still do not understand why Nintendo would breeze over UFO 50 and Undusted in the actual presentation. These are unique concepts that could have been shown more prominently. Undusted especially has that oddly satisfying vibe that can attract a lot of casual players. Cleaning games might sound boring, but if PowerWash Simulator can become a hit, this has a chance too.

I think Content Warning coming to Switch is a good move, but I am a little worried the magic might not be the same as the PC launch. Part of the reason it went viral was because it was free for a day and streamers jumped on it. Without that, it might have a slower start. Still, I think the co-op gameplay will keep it alive if the community stays active.
