Tale of Tales Will Stop making Commercial Games
It’s easy to think that anyone who gets a Kickstarter campaign fully funded is destined for massive success. In fact, you’d be surprised how many times that doesn’t happen. I can speak from experience to where I backed a campaign cause I wanted it to succeed…then receive an update one day saying they’re scrapping the whole project for one reason or another. It’s very disheartening. And that’s just as a backer, I wasn’t the developer.
Tale of Tales, the developer behind the game Sunset, which had a successful Kickstarter, has posted a blog on their site stating that they’re bowing out of the commercial games business. Why? Because their game didn’t sell that well.
“We are happy and proud that we have tried to make a “game for gamers”,” wrote Michaël Samyn & Auriea Harvey on the Tale of Tales website. “We really did our best with Sunset, our very best. And we failed. So that’s one thing we never need to do again.”
“It’s hard to deal with this intense feeling of disappointment in a context of glowing reviews and compliments and encouragement from players. A small group of people clearly deeply appreciates what we do and we curse the economic system that doesn’t allow us to be pleased with that.”
You can still get their game Sunset on Steam, it’s currently at 50% off.
