Summer Games Done Quick 2023 Starts This Sunday
Ordinarily Games Done Quick waits until summer to launch their summer-branded marathon, but this year they’re getting started early. SGDQ 2023 starts this Sunday, May 28, decidedly late spring. It’s the earliest SGDQ ever; hopefully it won’t catch people off-guard or result in lower donation numbers.
Because GDQ does good things. Games Done Quick’s bi-annual marathons gather together the top speedrunners from around the country and set them to work demolishing all your favorite games in the name of charity. Viewers can donate cash to enter for prizes, vote in polls and sponsor bonus runs. To date, GDQ has raised over $43 million for various charities. As always, the summer version of this event benefits Doctors Without Borders.
Highlights from the upcoming week include a blindfolded speedrun of Breath of the Wild, an eight-per-team Super Mario Maker 2 relay race, a glitchless Elden Ring run, the entire Elder Scrolls Anthology on PC, and Ring Fit Adventure (somehow). Other scheduled games include Bugsnax, Sonic Frontiers, Hi-Fi RUSH, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, X-Men Arcade, and a Majora’s Mask randomizer. The Silly Block Done Quick is also back with entries like Hobo Cat Adventures and Give Me Toilet Paper!
This year SGDQ will be held at the Hilton Minneapolis in Minnesota, so if you can make it, check it out….otherwise everyone else can watch Summer Games Done Quick 2023 live on Twitch. It runs from May 28 to June 4.
