“Subject” Announced For Feature Film Development

Continuance Pictures is a film production company based in Melbourne and Brisbane, Australia that specializes in independent and creator-driven art films. “Our aim was to establish a platform for Australian talent and provide opportunities for emerging filmmakers everywhere,” says Continuance co-founder David Gim.

Continuance announced today they’re developing the short film “Subject” into a full-length feature. The short, originally submitted for Continuance’s short film initiative called “Continue,” was written by Los Angeles native Vincent Befi and will be directed by award-winning Australian filmmaker Tristan Barr. Barr is most known for Watch This Sunset, a movie he amazingly filmed and completed in just one take.

Not much is known about “Subject” at this time but the description of the short reads, “The complex, frightening story of a prison inmate chosen to participate in a secretive government study.” The movie version has already been cast, with Australian actor Stephen Phillips (TV’s “The Leftovers”, “Winners & Losers”) playing the lead alongside Gabriel Seow, Cecilia Low and Barr himself.

In addition, Continuance just announced the winners of their latest “Contunue” initiative. The following scripts will be developed into actual shorts and then, if they’re good, maybe even movies…

Take-Off by Joel Fleming – This fun caper follows Jules, a young Aboriginal juvenile carrying out community service at an aged care facility run by the authoritarian Ms. Martz. Jules befriends an ex-pole-vaulter resident, and they plan a daring escape.

A Mind Alike by Caitlin Milne – A leading tech company create a micro-device for the human mind, capturing and storing memory upwards of 20 years. While the product is revered, we find that not all is as it seems when battling amnesia, a young female struggles to piece together her fragmented memory, only to discover that it may not be her own.

“Subject” is expected to be completed and released within 2020.
