Street Fighter V Will Get "Second Wave" Of DLC Characters
Street Fighter V is coming exclusively to PS4 and PC, and Capcom is doing what it can to make sure it doesn’t fake out gamers by having them buy the same game twice, or feel cheated. Thus, they are treating Street Fighter V as a total game. There will only be one version, and though there will be updates and DLC, it will be either free, or entirely up to the player whether they want to get them.
In an interview with Gamespot, Matt Dahlgren talked about Capcom was viewing this, and also confirmed that there will be characters coming after launch, but it will be timed, and watched upon.
“I think we’re going to watch how things progress,” Dahlgren said. “We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We do have very ambitious plans for Street Fighter 5 and a very long term strategy. We’d like to continue as long as we can, but we’ll have to see how the product does.”
Though he did reiterate that the DLC is voluntary, you won’t need it to enjoy the game. The game will be complete at launch, the new characters just add more variety and fun to it.
“You’re never going to be forced to purchase an upgrade pack or another disc-based product,” he said. “We wanted to respect the early adopters and make sure we take care of them throughout the lifespan of the game.”
