Captain America

Steve Rogers Returns as Captain America for Marvel

As the old saying goes, you can’t keep a good Super Soldier down. Well, maybe that’s not an old saying, but it definitely seems to be the case for the original Star Spangled Avenger, Captain America aka Steve Rogers. In recent months, the mantle of Captain America was along to Steve Rogers’ longtime friend and crime-fighting partner Falcon aka Sam Wilson. However, Marvel Comics officially revealed this week that Steve Rogers will take up the role as Cap once again in the new book Captain America: Steve Rogers, which launches this spring.

The new promotional move was first revealed during ABC’s broadcast of Captain America: 75 Heroic Years. The new book coincides with the character’s 75th anniversary in comics. Not to mention the fact that spring will also see the release of the next theatrical Marvel Cinematic Universe extravaganza Captain America: Civil War. For the new book, Nick Spencer will be writing the story, and Jesus Saiz will be the artist.

Previously, Cap was drained of the Super Soldier Serum that granted him his enhanced strength, speed and endurance. For Captain America: Steve Rogers, the original Sentinel of Liberty will once again don the red, white and blue tights and continue his adventures. Rogers will be on a new mission and will carry a brand-new shield, while his classic shield will still be carried by comics. Here’s an interesting aspect to all for this. At least for now, Sam Wilson will remain the Captain America in his own book. So there will be two Caps at the same time in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe.

Speaking on the new comic, Nick Spencer stated: “It’s an exciting time to be writing Captain America, for sure– this year is the character’s 75th Anniversary, not to mention the upcoming release of Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. And with CIVIL WAR II approaching in the Marvel Universe, it felt like the perfect time to restore Steve Rogers to his former self.”

Spencer added on how the two Sentinel of Liberty books will coexist: “CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON will act as great counter-points to one another,” continues Spencer. “If you’re digging the topical, ripped-from-the-headlines approach we’re taking in Sam’s book, we’ve got plenty more of that to come. And if you’re up for a more timeless take, with Captain America facing off against Hydra and his classic rogues gallery, Steve’s book will be just the thing for you.”

The new book will be released in comic shops and digital devices this spring. You can check out the cover artwork and a better look at Cap’s new costume in the gallery below. Click on the thumnbails to see the full-size images:
