Steam Reports Over 12 Million Concurrent Users
Per the Steam stats page, the PC gaming platform has reached over 12.3 million concurrent users at the same time. That’s an all-time record for the service. The feat was reached by Steam on January 3, 2016. This breaks the service’s previous record of 10.7 million in October 2015.
Gamespot.com speculates that the uptick in user traffic was probably due to the Christmas and New Year holidays recently. Many users, likely students, were probably off school or off at work, so they had more time to play. This is also some much needed good news for Steam after the recent security error problems that happened close to the Christmas holiday period. You can read more about that here. The error had users’ personal and private information showing up publicly on the site, which was a major issue for a little while on Steam. Granted, the problem was taken care and Steam did address the issue to its users.
By comparison, Microsoft and Sony do not share these types of stats or traffic information for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network respectively. Steam having this type of transparency is refreshing and a good thing for the service and industry as a whole.
The top titles on Steam currently consist of Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fallout 4 , Grand Theft Auto V.
