Steam Machine Is Back, And It’s Not Alone

In 2015 Valve, then as now the market leader in PC video game software, entered the hardware market with the Steam Machine. Their own PC, running off their own OS to play their own games, was largely ignored and the product was shortly discontinued. As of today, it’s coming back. Why again, and why now? Because Valve finally managed to land a hardware hit with the Steam Deck, and they’re hoping their luck continues.

This new Steam Machine takes what was successful on the Deck and applies it to beefier chips, making it six times as powerful. It uses Proton and the Linux-based OS of the Deck to ensure compatibility with the majority of Steam games, even if they’re strictly for Windows. It has two USB-A ports and a MicroSD port on the front, and a Display Port, HDMI port, two USB-A ports and a USB-C port on the back. It will pack either a 512 GB or 2 TB SSD (depending on the model) that is easy to upgrade later. And the Steam Machine can be personalized, with a removable magnetic face plate on the front that can be swapped with other plate designs sold separately.

But like the headline says, it’s not alone! Valve announced two other pieces of hardware today. One was a new Steam Controller, so let’s get that out of the way: it’s a controller, moving on. They’ve got their own VR headset now: the Steam Frame. It’s said to be lightweight, use the latest in VR and motion tracking tech, and not even need a PC to run, though the option of using one is there. I checked and yes, Valve already released a VR set six years ago, by the bland name of Valve Index. That’s news to me too. They’re hoping people will notice this time.

But what everybody’s wondering is….does Valve have any plans for a Steam Deck 2? Not just yet. They say the tech upgrade they would like a successor to have isn’t possible yet. “the thing we’re making sure of is that it’s a worthwhile enough performance upgrade to make sense as a standalone product,” software engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais told IGN. So if that’s what you’re really waiting for, keep waiting. We’ll see how these other dalliances do.

I think if any original cast members are likely to return, it’s probably Robbie and André. Matt Bennett and Leon Thomas III haven’t had the same level of mainstream success as some of their co-stars. Victoria Justice has moved on to other projects, Elizabeth Gillies is doing great in television, and Ariana Grande is, well, Ariana Grande. But Matt and Leon? They don’t seem to be as busy with big Hollywood projects, so coming back to Hollywood Arts would make sense for them.

Robbie’s awkward humor was a big part of Victorious, and I could totally see him coming back as a quirky drama teacher or something. André, on the other hand, was actually talented, so maybe he returns as a successful musician who guest lectures or mentors students. It would be nice to see them again, and unlike some of the others, I don’t think they’d turn it down if offered. It all depends on how Nickelodeon wants to handle the returning cast.

I actually love the idea of seeing Hollywood Arts again! Trina being a teacher is unexpected, but that’s what makes it interesting. Maybe she’s grown, or maybe she’s still as ridiculous as ever. Either way, it’s a fun way to revisit the world without just redoing Victorious. I hope they bring back some of the old cast for cameos, but I’m also excited to meet new characters. If they do this right, it could be a great mix of nostalgia and fresh stories.

I grew up watching Victorious, so the idea of returning to Hollywood Arts is really special. It’s funny how a show that ended so long ago can still have such a strong fanbase. Seeing Trina as a teacher is wild to me—she was such a disaster back then, but I guess that’s part of the charm. If this show can balance humor with some heartfelt moments, I think it could actually work. And let’s be honest, no matter how it turns out, I’m watching for nostalgia alone.

Nickelodeon is smart for reviving Victorious in a way that doesn’t rely too heavily on the original cast. They know Ariana is never coming back, and the rest of the cast has moved on to different careers. Focusing on Trina as a mentor is a fresh angle, and it allows them to introduce new talent while still keeping the original setting. Whether or not it works depends on the writing. If they make Trina a real character instead of just a joke, this could actually be something special.

Trina as a teacher? That’s actually hilarious. She used to be a walking disaster, and now she’s responsible for helping students succeed? The irony is perfect. If the show leans into that ridiculousness and keeps the weird humor from Victorious, I think it’ll be a lot of fun. I just hope they don’t make Trina too competent—her overconfidence was what made her so funny in the first place.

Nickelodeon seems to be following the trend of legacy reboots, and honestly, it makes sense. Nostalgia sells. The challenge will be balancing fan service with a compelling new story. Trina was always played for laughs, so turning her into a mentor is a big risk. If they give her actual development, this could be an interesting character arc. But if they rely too much on old jokes, it might not hold up. The real test is whether younger audiences will care about a show that’s rooted in a decade-old series.

I watched Victorious here and there, but I wasn’t obsessed with it. Still, I think this is an interesting idea. It’s cool that they’re giving a side character a chance to shine, and I like that the show is moving forward instead of just bringing everyone back for nostalgia’s sake. If the new cast is strong, this could be fun. If not, well, at least they’re trying something different.

This feels unnecessary. Victorious wasn’t even finished properly, and now they want to revive it without the main character? What’s the point? Trina was a joke character—turning her into a teacher just seems forced. The only reason people are even talking about this is because of nostalgia. Without Tori, Cat, Jade, or even Beck, I don’t see how this will work. Feels like another desperate cash grab.
