Star Wars Battlefront: New Details for Supremacy Mode Revealed
Soon the holiday season will usher in the return of a galaxy far, far away. The first new Star Wars movie in 10 years will be hitting theaters in December. But first, the Star Wars Battlefront franchise will return to the game consoles with a new reboot. In addition, Electronic Arts and DICE have revealed more details for one of the featured gameplay modes for Battlefront this week in Supremacy Mode.
Supremacy Mode focuses on clashes between two sides on huge maps with ground troops, vehicles and classic Star Wars Heroes and Villains joining the fight. Players have to gain control of the majority of five control points across a gameplay map. Each team starts with two of these control points and fight for control of the fifth one at the center. The control points need to then be claimed in a set order. Action will then take place on two control points at a time, with one point per team.
Per Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall: “When you spawn into Supremacy, you don’t have to move far to see a lot of friends – and enemies. You’re thrown into a massive frontline, where your screen is filled with adversaries: infantry, Heroes, Walkers, and starfighters. You can prepare for very heavy and focused Star Wars action.”
According to the official description, all of the vehicles in the game will be taking part in the Supremacy battles for team assists. In addition, Star Wars icon characters can tip the scales for the battle, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett. The announcement did not give any hints at other icon characters who will be available to play as for the gameplay modes.
Supremacy will also feature the largest gameplay maps in Star Wars Battlefront, similar to the game’s signature mode Conquest. However, while the maps are similar and huge, the gameplay will be tweaked for Supremacy. Specifically, Brannvall claims that players will always respawn close to the action in Supremacy Mode. The hope is that this will also cut down on camping. Brannvall also referenced an Ewok village at the center of an Endor map, so players can get into the Ewok huts. This will apparently add some “interesting” verticality, per Brannvall.
Star Wars Battlefront arrives on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
