Sonic’s Friend Knuckles To Get His Own TV Show
Sonic has had plenty of TV shows (the latest one, Sonic Prime, is running right now on Netflix). But he has a tendency to (hedge)hog the spotlight. We’re sure other people in his circle of contacts would appreciate breaking out into shows of their own. It took thirty years, but after making his debut in Sonic 3 for Genesis, Knuckles the Echidna will finally receive his own star vehicle, which for now is just appropriately called “Knuckles.”
Apparently we’re slow on this one: the Knuckles TV show was first announced in February of last year. We don’t remember hearing anything about it then. But we’re hearing about it now. This series will pick up on the continuity from the two Sonic movies, which, yes, means Idris Elba will be reprising the red, spiky-handed, surly animal.
In fact they managed to get every major player back for this show, which is impressive. The two humans, Wade Whipple and his wife Maddie, will appear and be played by their movie actors, Adam Pally and Tika Sumpter. Little is known of the overall plot but Sega tossed out this summary: “Knuckles agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.” Other cast members will include Edi Patterson (“The Righteous Gemstones”), Julian Barratt (“Mindhorn”), Scott Mescudi (“Don’t Look Up”), and Ellie Taylor (“Ted Lasso”).
Whenever it’s done (there’s no release window yet), Knuckles will appear on Paramount+. A third Sonic movie is scheduled to hit theaters December 20, 2024.
