Yesterday, a small glimmer of hope was given to fans who wanted the cancelled Silent Hills game to still somehow be made. There was a rumor going around that Microsoft was going to buy out the rights for the Silent Hill franchise so that they could make it an Xbox Exclusive, and then continue with the making of Silent Hills so that it could be released on their system.
It was a beautiful thought, especially with the fact that Microsoft honestly could’ve reassembled most of the team from Silent Hills, or at least the big names that made it worth while in the first place with Hideo Kojima (who’s now a free agent) and Guillermo Del Toro (who was heartbroken that this game was getting cancelled).
Sadly, the dream has been dashed. For no sooner were we getting our hopes up, than Xbox Head Phil Spencer took to Twitter and made the following statement:
“@GoReds42093 @Xbox Sorry, this isn’t true. Not sure where the rumor started but I don’t want to mislead anyone.”
While maybe not totally surprising, weirder things have happened in gaming. Just look at the Silent Hills debacle! There’s hope that Silent Hills could still be made, but every day that passes makes it seem less likely.
