SHAZAM! is DC’s Next Movie To Film
The DCEU hasn’t always been the most stable thing in terms of production. Case and point, after Justice League premieres in November, there won’t be a DCEU film until December of 2018 with Aquaman. What’s more, the Flash film has been constantly delayed, and the director chair keeps getting vacated, there’s infinite amounts of rumors around The Batman film, Man of Steel 2 is rumored but not confirmed, and there’s apparently 3-4 Batman spinoff films in the works depending on who you talk to. But now, we do have confirmation about what the next DC Comics film will be, and it’s SHAZAM!
And this comes straight from David Sandberg, the director of the film:
“There’s a script,” Sandberg revealed in an interview with FilmRiot. “It’s the next DC movie to shoot.”
What makes this statement interesting is two fold. 1) Black Adam has been confirmed to not be in the film. And 2) we have no idea who will play either Billy Batson, or SHAZAM! himself. That all being said, Sandberg is happy with what’s going on, but he’s also being sure to be faithful to the material that brought SHAZAM! to life:
“I’m taking it all in,” he shared. “Some of those really old ones are quite fun, when he’s, like, fighting Hitler. Stuff like that. No, cause he’s been around since the 40s for, like, as long as Superman. So there’s a lot to read and that’s also interesting because he sort of has a couple of different origin stories or a couple of different takes on it. You know, you have the most recent sort of Geoff Johns version and then you have Ordwell [sic] version and then you have those really old versions. It’s going to be really interesting just because of how hardcore the fans are.”
If all goes well, SHAZAM! will arrive in early 2019.
