SDCC 2017: Marvel Comics Making Thrawn Miniseries
When the Star Wars Expanded Universe, which was a series of books and stories set after Return of the Jedi, was erased after Disney bought Lucasfilm, many wondered if certain characters from that universe would ever return. Despite its convoluted nature, there were many stories and characters that are still revered today, and one of the biggest ones was Grand Admiral Thrawn. This brilliant tactician was silently one of Emperor Palatine’s greatest admiral’s and held the outer reaches of the galaxy in control of the Empire. So, when Palpatine fell, Thrawn took up the reins and almost wiped out the New Repubic.
But, then that was all erased, until Star Wars Rebels Season 03 when Thrawn made his official canon debut. In it, he displayed the same calculating nature that fans fell in love with, and new fans wanted to know more about this “Grand Admiral”. So, a book was written for him earlier this year. And now, Marvel Comics, as revealed at SDCC, is adapting that book into a miniseries comic.
Marvel has done this before with Rogue One, and even expanded the story a little bit, but it’s unclear if that’ll happen here. The series will arrive in February 2018, and well be written by Jody Houser and drawn by Luke Ross. Both of whom are very familiar with the Star Wars line of Marvel Comics.
