SDCC 2017: Everything Changes In iZombie Season Four
The last season finale of iZombie shocked everybody by upending the entire premise of the show. Originally, white-haired Liv Moore had to cope with keeping her zombie-ness a secret from the general population, while using the visions she got from murdered people’s brains to solve crimes. Now everyone knows zombies like Liv exist, and when season four begins, everything will change.
The iZombie panel at SDCC laid out the scenario: Since Seattle was where all the zombies were located, it’s now walled off from the rest of the world while the government decides what to do about the infection. In the meantime, those who have become zombies are given “Brain Cards” and doled out sustenance though a rigid system.
Blaine can’t resist capitalizing on this latest development and opens a restaurant catering to zombies called Romero’s (too soon? Maybe not by the time this airs). It’s more dangerous to be out in the open as an anti-zombie terrorist group, “The Dead Enders,” forms with the goal of wiping them out. While some are restless to get out of Seattle, there are other people who want to get IN — specifically those who have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses, wishing to become zombies because it’s the only way they’ll survive. Rob Thomas pretty much thought of everything here.
There are several big questions that still weren’t answered by the panel — like how these changes are going to affect the procedural elements of the series. Liv was once the only one who knew how to solve crimes by eating brains — now every cop in the precinct has a zombie partner assigned for this purpose. What will she have to do with her time? Besides survive New Seattle, I mean….
This all sounds more expensive to shoot, but no one knows what it’ll look like because the season isn’t close to shooting time — Season 4 won’t air until 2018. In lieu of any future clips, The CW put together this sizzle reel featuring highlights from the previous season. Enjoy!
