Scarlet Moon Records has an annual tradition of releasing one holiday-themed album every December that goes back to 2014. Like the roman numeral suggests, Scarlet Moon Christmas Volume IX marks the ninth time they’ve done this.
Unlike most of their albums, the Scarlet Moon Christmas series has little to do with video games, there’s just not much to cover outside of Christmas NiGHTS and that one snow area in Banjo-Kazooie. Instead the albums cover traditional Christmas songs, BUT they’re composed by artists who have worked for Scarlet Moon on other projects, or have composed for video games themselves.
This year’s album includes contributions by Nami Nakagawa (NieR, Demon Slayer), Osamu Kubota (Granado Espada, Beatmania), Jamphibious, Midas Klare, Frank van ‘t Ende, Rogov. and mojera — that last one being a duo comprised of composer Mitsuto Suzuki (FINAL FANTASY series) and a vocalist who goes by “non.”
“It’s always fun to see how our annual holiday albums take shape depending on who’s contributing,” notes Scarlet Moon’s Jayson Napolitano. “This year features several electronic tracks that I think fans of the season will love. We’re also happy to make available our first holiday gift guide where we include physical items we recently re-acquired after the closure of our distribution partner, Ship to Shore, and also releases from friends that are perfect for any music fan. Included is a 20% off Bandcamp discount code running Thanksgiving through Black Friday and Cyber Monday that we hope will help people stretch their holiday shopping budgets during a time when things are so expensive. We hope fans enjoy the album and the gift guide!”
- “Shoppin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Jamphibious
- “Frostbit” by Frank van ‘t Ende
- “Glacier Quests” by Midas Klare
- “Neon Lights” by mojera (remix of Kraftwerk)
- “Dear Santa” by Nami Nakagawa
- “Alilo” by Osamu Kubota
