Santa Inc Announced For HBO Max
Here’s another HBO Max series that won’t be ready on launch day, but in this case they have an excuse: it would be out of season. Santa Inc. is a satirical animated show based in the North Pole and focusing on a high-achieving member of Santa’s workshop.
Candy Smalls is the highest-ranked female elf in the North Pole, but there’s one glass ceiling she’s never been able to shatter: the role of the Big Man himself, on account of it always being a Big Man. But then when her friend, who was originally positioned to take the Santa role, is poached by another company, Candy seizes her opportunity. She’s going to be the first female Santa in history — or else!
Santa Inc. is the product of a collaboration between Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen. Silverman will be voicing Candy, while Rogen will play the as yet unnamed elf snatched up by a rival corporation (it’s Amazon, by the way — not joking).
“I have long dreamed of a taking a beloved holiday tradition and adding a feminist agenda and some R rated comedy and when I read this script from Ali, with Seth and Sarah attached to voice, I knew that it was a perfect fit for us at Max.” says Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president original comedy and animation.
“Sarah and Seth are the perfect comedy duo for this empowering and very funny animated series shepherded by the hysterical Alexandra Rushfield,” adds Lionsgate Head of Scripted Development Scott Herbst. “We look forward to diving into the world of animation with our Point Grey partners, and to bring the holidays to HBO Max in a totally unexpected and fresh way.”
Eight episodes of Santa Inc have been ordered, and the first season should show up on HBO Max whenever it’s both completed and seasonally appropriate.
