Sandman Movie Heads to New Line
Warner Bros. is heading full throttle into making many of their DC Comics properties into movie franchises. This continues with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which comes out next March. After that, there’s Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, and more. But it’s not just the DC Comics label that’s getting attention, but the Vertigo label as well. Though not many movies from that label are up for films at the moment, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is. In fact, it’s been in “development” for quite some time. Now though, there’s been a development that may shift the project into a new direction. The Wrap reveals that Sandman, along with any other Vertigo titles that become movies, will now be under the New Line Cinema banner, instead of Warner Bros.
Though there’s no reason given for this swap, it’s possible that Time Warner wants to branch out their content so that it doesn’t become convoluted. Basically, the the higher-ups want all the “pure” DC Comics and superhero films the WB label, while all the Vertigo titles (which are a separate entity) will be under New Line.
Currently, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attached to direct the film. There’s no release date given for the Sandman movie, but the moment that changes, or a new Vertigo title gets greenlit for a film, we’ll let you know.
