Resident Evil Survival Unit Is Now Available Worldwide on Mobile

The Resident Evil series has explored multiple mediums in the past, and now it leaps into the land of mobile devices! Introducing the strategy horror experience, Resident Evil Survival Unit, available worldwide!

This titular horror franchise needs little introduction, with how much it has influenced both the horror genre and gaming. From its beginnings on the playstation 1 to present day, it remains a major part of the video gaming ecosystem. With this popularity, it was no wonder that the series would find itself in the world of mobile gaming.

The series is not a complete stranger to mobile gaming, with the fourth game having a port on IOS. However, Survival Unit is not just a port, but rather an entirely new game made specifically for mobile platforms. It differs in many ways from the original series, but still retains the survival horror core that makes Resident Evil so beloved.

EXPLORE, BUILD, AND SURVIVE

Unlike the other games in the main series which play as shooters, Survival Unit is instead a strategy game. You gather a squad of survivors to explore different areas for resources. These areas, however, hold many obstacles, like puzzle challenges and a variety of infected monsters.

You contend against these monsters with your survivors, with many coming from different parts of the series’ history. Whether it’s Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, or even Brad Vickers, these survivors will stand their ground and fight the horde. You can customize and upgrade your team, with each character having unique abilities and traits to take into account.

However, your exploration is not all you need to worry about, as you have a base to manage as well. This base can grow with the resources you gather, with the Merchant taking up shop to sell you items and upgrades. Your time will be spent exploring, upgrading, and then exploring greater areas for better materials to survive the apocalyptic world you now dwell in.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS RESIDENT EVIL MOBILE HORROR GAME

  • Explore and Gather:ย Set out into a ruined city on missions to gather resources to survive the horrors the world has birthed.
  • Ally with Other Survivors:ย Get assistance from others and tackle the difficulties of survival together.
  • Assemble a Tactical Defense: Engage in real-time strategy with a team of survivors to fight umbrella-made monsters and zombies.
  • Popular Characters Return:ย Gather up a team of returning characters from the Resident Evil series, like Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
  • Manage Your Home Base: Use the resources you gather to build up a proper stronghold, where you can improve your characters and purchase upgrades.

The concept of this game is stupid. Most Resident Evil game, you want to escape Raccoon City. But on this game, you're going to start a farm in Raccoon City. You're going to build buildings and shelters. Like, why the hell you want to stay in Raccoon City? And they're even gardening to make food. So they can stay on Raccoon City.

I donโ€™t understand how this game is supposed to fit into the Resident Evil timeline. Chris Redfield is nowhere near Raccoon City during the outbreak, so having him appear here already breaks canon. And whatโ€™s going on with Sherry Birkin being an adult? She was just a kidโ€”11 years oldโ€”during the Raccoon City events. It feels really strange to see her acting like a fully grown survivor alongside other characters who should actually be there. I get that itโ€™s a mobile spin-off and they wanted to include popular characters, but messing with the timeline this much makes it hard for me to take the story seriously. Itโ€™s fun as a game, but canon-wise, itโ€™s completely off.

I downloaded Resident Evil Survival Unit the day it came out, and I have to say, it feels different from the main series but still has that tense atmosphere. I like the strategy element a lotโ€”it makes me think about which characters I send out and how to manage my base. The puzzles are simple but rewarding, and seeing familiar faces like Leon and Claire always makes me smile. Iโ€™m still figuring out how to balance exploring and upgrading the base, but itโ€™s fun to plan my next moves. The graphics on my phone are surprisingly detailed, and I feel like it really captures the feeling of being in the Resident Evil world without needing a console.

Seriously, this feels like a cheap cash grab rather than a proper Resident Evil game. The strategy and base-building might seem fun on paper, but the way they threw in random characters without caring about the timeline completely disrespects the series. Sherry being an adult, Chris being in the wrong placeโ€”itโ€™s like they only cared about using familiar faces to lure players in. The mobile graphics and gameplay arenโ€™t bad for phones, but it doesnโ€™t feel like a real Resident Evil experience. Itโ€™s clearly designed to make money from fans who just want to see their favorite characters, and it cheapens everything the series has built over decades. I canโ€™t take it seriously as part of the franchise.

I donโ€™t understand why characters like Catherine, Ben, Marvin, and others who are supposed to be dead are alive in this game. It doesnโ€™t make sense to me at all. Resident Evil has a pretty clear timeline and story, so bringing back people who were killed in the main events just feels off. It gets even more confusing when characters who werenโ€™t even in the Raccoon City Incident show up as part of the squad. I get that itโ€™s a mobile spin-off and maybe they wanted to include fan favorites, but it breaks the continuity for me. Part of what makes Resident Evilโ€™s story compelling is seeing how events unfold and how certain characters survive or die, so ignoring that feels strange. It would have been easier to accept if they created entirely new characters for the game, instead of bending the established story to fit them in. I still enjoy playing the game, but these choices make it harder for me to feel fully immersed in the Resident Evil universe.

I played for a few hours and I canโ€™t stop thinking about the planning aspect. Choosing the right survivors for a mission feels critical because one wrong choice can mess up your strategy. I like that itโ€™s not just about combatโ€”resource gathering and base management make it more complex than I expected. Seeing characters from older games gives me a nostalgic feeling, but itโ€™s exciting to see them in a new type of gameplay. The interface is pretty clean, and I havenโ€™t run into any major bugs, which is rare for mobile releases.

This game basically feels like State of Survival but with Resident Evil characters pasted on top. I donโ€™t get the concept at allโ€”Raccoon City was about escaping a zombie outbreak, not planting gardens and building shops. Managing a base like itโ€™s some kind of farming simulator completely kills the tension and urgency that makes Resident Evil interesting. Sure, they wanted a mobile strategy game, but turning an apocalypse into a resource management exercise is kind of ridiculous. Youโ€™re supposed to be running for your life, not deciding which garden bed to upgrade next. Itโ€™s fun if you want a casual time sink, but calling it a โ€œResident Evilโ€ experience is a stretch.

I have to say, the idea of a strategy Resident Evil game on a phone was unexpected, but it works. I like assembling a squad with different abilities and trying to figure out the best combination. Itโ€™s satisfying when a mission goes well because you really feel like your planning paid off. The horror is still there, not in jump scares but in tense encounters with infected enemies. I havenโ€™t had any crashes or performance problems on my phone either, which is good for a free game with in-game purchases. Overall, itโ€™s a strong mobile adaptation that doesnโ€™t just reuse old content
