Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater, Resident Evil 4 characters looking adorable
Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater is a Japanese ad for Resident Evil 4 remake.
The Resident Evil 4 remake has been receiving attention with its Japanese ad, the Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater. The ad portrays Leon Scott Kennedy and Ashley Graham (the fictional President’s daughter, not the model) as cute anime characters. The ad pays tribute to World Masterpiece Theater. It is an anime franchise from the 1980s to early 2000s that adapted public domain European and American novels and fairy tales.
Japan’s focus has shifted to manga, webtoons, light novels, and visual novel adaptations, but most World Masterpiece Theater animes featured Caucasian characters with blond hair, as the stories were adaptations of European and American works. Currently, the Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater comprises three episodes, but we can expect updates in the future. Nippon Animation animated the commercials, giving Leon and Ashley a similar appearance to the characters in the anime Heidi. The Ganados, who dress like their original Resident Evil 4 outfits, blend well with Nippon Animation’s aesthetics.
Overall, the Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater ad is a unique take on the Resident Evil 4 remake that pays homage to classic anime adaptations of Western literature.
