Resident Evil 3 Is Now On Apple Stuff

Did you know much of the Resident Evil series, including some of the most recent releases, are playable on mobile now? Well…there’s a catch; the mobile device you’re using has to be Apple-branded. Capcom has published Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village and, as of this week, Resident Evil 3 on iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers.

By Resident Evil 3 we don’t mean the original, we refer to the HD high-poly 21st century remake. This is part of the reason why Apple got the exclusive here. Only iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro models have the horses to run it, as well as any iPad and Mac with the M1 chip or later. If you’ve got one of those, you can take Jill anywhere.

Resident Evil 3 follows S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine in her desperate journey to escape the viral outbreak spreading through Raccoon City. The game delivers a unique strain of survival horror based on the fear of being pursued by a relentless force, the Bio Organic Weapon known as Nemesis. Powered by Capcom’s RE ENGINE, this vivid reimagining of the original game delivers action-packed gameplay and bone-chilling visuals with detail and fidelity that can only be realized by today’s current technology.

Unsure if RE3 is really going to work with touch controls? Capcom offers a free demo on the App Store so you can try it out and see what you think. The Apple version has fully customizable touch controls, plus an Auto Fire feature on the iPhone and iPad that lets you automatically fire weapons after aiming at enemies for a short time. But the game also supports most game controllers that connect to Apple devices, so if you have one of those, use that instead.

Resident Evil 3 is available now on the App Store, at a temporary launch discount. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and Resident Evil Village have also been discounted this same week, at prices up to 75% off.

I already have RE3 on my PS5, so I won’t be buying this again. But if you’re an Apple user and haven’t played it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out. The visuals are fantastic, and the gameplay is smooth. Just make sure you have a controller because playing this with touch controls sounds like a nightmare.

The only way I’d buy another version of the RE3 remake is if Capcom made a director’s cut. The original had way more content—Nemesis showed up more often, the Clock Tower section was removed, and they even cut the giant Grave Digger boss fight. They toned Nemesis down because they didn’t want it to be too scary, but isn’t that the whole point? The remake is still fun, but it’s missing a lot of what made the original great.

I clicked on this thinking there was a new DLC or some kind of expansion... but nope, just an Apple port. Oh well.

If Capcom added something new, like extra content or cut scenes, I’d consider buying it. But this is just a port, so there’s no real reason to double-dip. I hope they’re working on something actually new for the Resident Evil series.

If you’re a MacBook user and have never played the RE remakes, you should give them a shot. The trilogy—RE2, RE3, and RE4—looks stunning and plays great. Even if RE3 is the weakest of the three, it’s still worth experiencing.

When I introduce someone to Resident Evil, I always start them with the RE1 remake. Then I let them play RE3 remake next because it’s a bit more action-heavy and fun. I save RE2 remake for last because it’s the best of them all. It’s the perfect way to get someone into the series.

Capcom better put Jill in Resident Evil 9. The last time she was a lead was in a remake of an old game. Meanwhile, Leon and Chris keep getting new stories. Jill is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise, and it’s time she gets a proper return. She’s been sidelined for years while Leon and Chris get all the attention. And it’s not just Jill—most of the female protagonists have been pushed aside. We need a fresh Resident Evil game with Jill at the forefront again.

I know people were disappointed with the RE3 remake, and I get it—the original had more branching paths, more locations, and more Nemesis encounters. But even though this remake is shorter and missing some key moments, it’s still a solid game. It just doesn’t live up to the original in terms of content.

Apple users are about to meet Nemmy boy for the first time. Hope you’re ready for the terror of hearing “STAAAAARS” every time he shows up. Even if the remake toned him down, he’s still one of the scariest stalker enemies in the series.
