Ready To Grind? Tony Hawk Returns To PS4 This Year
Skateboarding fans rejoice as, following mutterings and rumors at the tail end of 2014, the man himself Tony Hawk has announced that a new Tony Hawk skateboarding game will be coming to PlayStation 4 in 2015.
The ultimate pro skater made the announcement himself during Sony’s CES 2015 keynote conference in Las Vegas yesterday. The news followed Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai celebrating the PlayStation’s success, announcing that worldwide PS4 console sales have passed 18.5 million.
Hawk said that the new project, which he originally teased via Twitter in November, was much further along than he had expected it to be. No real details were given, such as the official game title, whether the game will be a remaster of an older title or whether it will be a retail or downloadable release. After an extended period without any notable skateboarding games, aside from Roll7’s phenomenal Olli Olli, it will be a welcome return whatever the result.
Platform exclusivity wasn’t confirmed by Hawk or Sony, meaning that the next title in the Pro Skater franchise could end up being multi-platform. Sony rarely focuses on gaming during CES events, though this could prove to be an irrelevant detail.
If Activision is still the publisher for the Tony Hawk Pro Skater, or whatever the new iteration will be titled, it could well end up being multi-platform with some specific content and marketing partnering, in the same vein as Destiny and Call of Duty.
