Psychonauts 2 Delayed Into 2019

The original Psychonauts was one of the best 3D platformers ever made, but it came out during a glut of badly-designed 3D platformers that killed the genre. Time and ports to newer systems have grown its fanbase, however, and that fanbase was more than eager to partially crowdfund a proposed Psychonauts 2 in 2015.

It’s been a long time since then, and it will be longer still. Project lead Zak McClendon informed project backers today that after completing the first playable build of the game, they’ve made a new estimation as to how long it’ll take. Much longer than anticipated, turns out….originally scheduled to be released in the third quarter of 2018, Psychonauts 2 has now slipped into 2019.

McClendon couldn’t give a more specific release window than that. “We do know about how long it’s going to take but we don’t want to say anything until we have a firm date for people,” he said. “We want to give it time to make it something that we love and that the fans love and continues the legacy of Psychonauts in a real meaningful and special way.”

In the meantime, updates on Psychonauts will continue to be posted on the project’s Fig page.
