Pokkén Tournament Will be Compatible With All Amiibo
Amiibo and Nintendo fans might be happy to know that every single one of their Amiibo figurines will be compatible with the upcoming Pokemon franchise fighting game, Pokken Tournament. The tidbit was revealed on the official website for the game, the game is “compatible with all Amiibo accessories unlocking in-game items.”
Considering how popular and insane the Amiibo craze has become, this sounds like a great way to capitalize on the Amiibo toys. In addition, the game will include a Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card as a special gift for the first edition of the game. The Amiibo card will immediately unlock Shadow Mewtwo as a playable character in the game right away. The card will only be available with the physical version of the game and not the downloaded version.
It’s currently unknown what functions the Amiibos will unlock. Hopefully, the Amiibo will unlock some in-game bonuses or possible DLC skins for the Pokemon. For one thing, there are only five actual Pokemon Amiibo figurines out there right now with Pikachu, Mewtwo, Greninja, Charizard, Lucario and Jigglypuff. It seems like there is a bit of a missed opportunity here with the lack of more Pokemon Amiibo figures. It seems like Nintendo could exploit this market even further with a specific Pokemon or Pokkén Tournament Amiibo line similar to some of the game of franchise specific Amiibo lines that have come down the line before with Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros. and Splatoon.
Pokkén Tournament is due out on March 18. The game will be available exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U console.
