Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai recently announced that the PlayStation 4 is already profitable for Sony. Hirai revealed the news during a corporate strategy meeting where he said the launch of the PS4 was “hugely successful.”
He also talked about growing the PS4 install base. Currently more than 7 million units have been sold worldwide. “From a profitability perspective, PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses,” Hirai said.
Additionally, he also revealed that half of PS4 users are registered to the PlayStation Plus subscription service.
