Half-Life 3 and a Left 4 Dead sequel are in development according to Counter-Strike creator and former Valve employee Minh “Gooseman” Le in an interview in a goRGNtv podcast earlier today.
“I don’t think I can talk about that, to be honest, but I think it’s kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on,” said Le.
“I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn’t surprise anyone if I said they’re doing it, they’re working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I’d say I did see some concept art for Half-Life 3,” he added. Le also expressed excitement that Valve is working on an untitled Left 4 Dead sequel.
“I saw it, it looks great. I was really excited when I saw that, I was like ‘wow, this looks great’,” he said.
Valve has never confirmed the existence of Half-Life 3 or a Left 4 Dead sequel, although a photo taken by the Dota 2 Reddit community in Valve’s offices in last August suggests that Left 4 Dead 3 is in development. Valve founder Gabe Newell has stated in an interview with the Washington Post in January that he would like Valve to focus on multiplayer games instead of releasing multiple Half-Life sequels.
To this day, gamers attempt to link almost anything to a possible Half-Life 3 release. Anything Newell or any Valve employee says is often scrutinized for any Half-Life 3 references. Some diehard fans even use Half-Life 3 for laughs, such as when Reddit’s gaming website, r/gaming, was hacked last year.
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was released in 2007 while Left 4 Dead 2 was released in 2009. A Left 4 Dead game, entitled Left 4 Dead: Survivors, is being made for Japanese arcades that features a new cast of survivors and utilizes the Wii Remote.
