Tokyo RPG Factory, the very factory behind RPGs like I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, announced their third major project this week. Say konnichiwa to Oninaki, an upcoming RPG with more action-heavy elements than the studio’s previous two titles.
The game’s protagonist, Kagachi, is a Watcher — someone assigned to patrol the hidden netherworld and return lost souls to where they belong (reincarnation is a proven fact in this world). As you progress through this purplish land in an overhead perspective, you’ll encounter a whole lot of monsters who don’t want you to do your job. The exact reason for why so many uglies have it out for you is unknown at this time. Not much of the story has been revealed so far….just how the game plays.
Oninaki is scheduled to arrive on the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and PC via Steam this summer.
Tokyo RPG Factory’s third title, ONINAKI, continues the studio’s mission to take inspiration from classic Japanese role-playing games to create a brand-new experience on modern platforms following the releases of the critically acclaimed I Am Setsuna ™ and LOST SPHEAR ™.
With exciting new action-RPG gameplay, players will explore the world as a mysterious Watcher named Kagachi who is bound by duty to sever the bonds that tie the Lost to this world. With Kagachi’s guidance, these wandering souls in the world of the Beyond can continue the cyclical process of reincarnation over again.
