ONE: High School Heroes (2025) ~ Unmasking Courage

“ONE: High School Heroes” is a 2025 Wavve Original Korean drama, 8 episodes, categorized as Action, Bullying, High School, and Coming of Age.

  • Memorable Quote: “I don’t want to give in, not to them, not anymore.”

SUMMARY: A top student suffering domestic abuse teams up with a sharp-witted classmate to form a masked vigilante group. Together, they confront school bullies, corrupt authority figures, and heal their own emotional wounds.

♦ Bullying at School and at Home

In “ONE: High School Heroes (2025)”, two high school boys refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice. At the center of the story is Kim Ui-Gyeom, a top student known for his quiet demeanor, academic excellence, and seemingly perfect composure. But beneath his polished exterior lies a world of pain. Kim Ui-Gyeom endures relentless emotional and physical abuse from his father, a respected businessman who maintains a façade of gentleness in public while enforcing harsh discipline at home. Kim Ui-Gyeom’s life is a constant balancing act between surviving his father’s expectations and navigating the growing threats of school bullying.

Everything changes when Kim Ui-Gyeom’s long-suppressed fighting instincts erupt during a confrontation at school. His natural combat ability, something he never intended to reveal, catches the attention of Kang Yoon-Ki, a sharp, quick-thinking student with his own impressive fighting skills. He is the opposite of Kim Ui-Gyeom in many ways: street smart, socially aware, and unafraid to challenge the school’s unspoken hierarchy.

♦ High School Heroes

Recognizing Kim Ui-Gyeom’s potential, Yun Gi proposes an idea that becomes the heart of the series: forming a masked vigilante duo known as High School Heroes, dedicated to protecting students who have no one else to stand up for them.

As the pair begins taking action, they uncover layers of corruption and cruelty embedded within the school system. Their missions range from confronting violent bullies to exposing teachers who turn a blind eye to abuse. Each episode deepens the emotional stakes, revealing how the school’s toxic environment mirrors the oppressive structures in Kim Ui-Gyeom’s home life. The more he fights for others, the more he begins to reclaim his own sense of agency and identity.

Kang Yoon-Ki, meanwhile, battles his own demons. Though confident on the surface, he carries guilt from past failures and fears repeating them. His partnership with Kim Ui-Gyeom becomes a source of healing for both boys, forging a bond built on trust, loyalty, and shared purpose. Their dynamic is the emotional core of the series, two broken youths finding strength in each other as they challenge the injustices around them.

The stakes escalate when their vigilante activities draw the attention of powerful figures within the school and beyond. Kim Ui-Gyeom’s father, suspicious of his son’s newfound independence, tightens his control, leading to explosive confrontations that push Kim Ui-Gyeom to the brink. He has to choose between living under his father’s tyranny or embracing the hero he has become.

I just finished bingeing this last weekend and honestly, it hit harder than I expected. Kim Ui-Gyeom’s home situation is so real and painful to watch, you feel every hit he takes from his dad. Then Kang Yoon-Ki comes in with that street energy and suddenly they’re this unstoppable team in masks. The fights are quick and brutal, not over-the-top flashy, which makes them feel grounded. I like how the show doesn’t let the action take over the emotional stuff—their talks on the rooftop after missions are my favorite parts. It’s not just punching bullies, it’s about finally standing up for yourself. 8.2 from me too, maybe even 8.5. Definitely adding it next to Weak Hero Class 1 on my list. Lee Jung-Ha carries the quiet pain perfectly.

This drama is solid proof that high school vigilante stories can still feel fresh in 2025. The masked duo idea works because both guys have real reasons to hide their faces—shame, fear, revenge, all of it. I was surprised how much screen time they gave to the corruption inside the school, not just random bullies. Teachers ignoring abuse, admins covering up stuff, it’s scary how accurate that part feels. The father-son storyline is brutal, no sugarcoating. Kim Do-Wan as Yoon-Ki brings the right mix of cocky and broken. I laughed a few times at his sarcastic comments during fights. Worth the watch if you like Study Group or High School Return of a Gangster. Trailer already has me hyped for a rewatch.

Okay, I went in expecting another generic bullying revenge drama but this one actually made me tear up twice. Ui-Gyeom hiding bruises under his perfect uniform while smiling at teachers? That’s too close to real life for some people. The way he slowly stops taking it and starts fighting back with Yoon-Ki feels earned, not rushed. Their friendship grows naturally—no forced bro moments. The action scenes are clean and intense, especially the one in the empty gym. I’m glad they didn’t make it 16 episodes; 8 keeps it tight and powerful.

The home situation is probably what bothers most of the viewers. It's hard enough facing the cruel world. But when you come home, that's the one place you should be able to get some peace. But when your home is cruel too … where do you get a break?
