At NYCC, the upcoming animated film Justice League Dark was shown in part to a hyped crowd. Four different clips were shown, from the Justice League acknowledging, except for Batman, that something magical was going on. To the Justice League Dark starting to meet one another, to encounters with magical beings, and a huge tease for Swamp Thing.
After the clips were shown, some of the cast were on hand to talk about the film. This animated feature is special in particular, as actor Matt Ryan is reprising his role of John Constantine from his short lived TV show, of which was so popular among the cult who watched it, that he got a cameo in Arrow in Season 04.
“The most interesting thing about doing him in this context is exploring his relationship with these characters… all of whom Constantine has very precarious relationships with. Playing that out was a very fun thing to do,” Ryan said. “It was a very different kind of a working. It was so freeing in a way.”
He went on to note that saying the spells for his magic was the hardest part of the role:
“They were always very, very difficult to do. We had fun when we were recording them because I kept getting them wrong… I was pretty okay at it. I’d done it a few times [on the TV show]. They’re always difficult to get your mouth around… It can be a difficult thing.”
Jason O’Mara talked about his role as Batman, and then spoke about who he’d like to see the Dark Knight meet next:
“For me, I love the villains. I love the classic villains. To me, the greatest all-time villain is Joker, but it’s getting harder and harder because there have been so many Joker performances over the years,” O’Mara shared. “Mark Hamill has that sown up! Maybe Riddler. I like it when Riddler is really bonkers.”
Justice League arrives in 2017.
